Allen Rodman

Personal injury attorney Allen Rodman, who is currently Of Counsel to Rodman, Rodman & Sandman, P.C., founded the law firm in 1957 after graduating from Harvard Law School and serving in the U.S. Army. He also received a Master of Laws degree in taxation from Boston University School of Law in 1974. For over 50 years, Mr. Rodman represented victims who had been wronged by the negligence of others in the fields of personal injury, toxic torts, workers’ compensation, and product defects. He is known as a pioneer in several areas of litigation, including asbestos exposure and tobacco addiction.

In the mid-1970s, when other personal injury attorneys declined, Mr. Rodman began representing victims of asbestos exposure from Malden, Boston, and the surrounding area who were suffering from asbestos-related diseases, including mesothelioma, lung cancer, and asbestosis. As the practice grew, obtained many millions of dollars in compensation on behalf of several thousand tradesmen in at-risk occupations and their families.

Mr. Rodman’s showed his visionary spirit once again in 1993 when the firm's personal injury attorneys partnered with other firms from around the country to litigate pioneering addiction cases against the tobacco industry. The result of the combined effort was a national settlement of over $200 billion dollars going to states across the country for Medicaid reimbursement.

Mr. Rodman is an astute student of history and enjoys tennis, cross-country skiing, chess, and writing. His first book of poetry was published recently, and he is presently working on a children’s book. He lives in Lexington, Massachusetts, with his wife and has three children, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Steven J. Rodman

Steven J. Rodman is President of Rodman, Rodman & Sandman, P.C., and has been one of the firm's personal injury attorneys for over 23 years, serving clients from in and around Boston and Malden. Upon graduating with honors from the University of Rochester in 1982 and earning a J.D. degree from Boston University School of Law in 1985, he entered the practice and played a significant role in helping the firm achieve national recognition in the areas of asbestos litigation, tobacco litigation, and toxic torts.

Mr. Rodman has extensive experience in all aspects of personal injury law and has successfully litigated and resolved thousands of claims on behalf of plaintiffs involving wrongful death, asbestos exposure, automobile torts, construction accidents, workers’ compensation, product defects, brain and spinal cord injuries, and children’s injuries. Mr. Rodman is a strong negotiator and advocate whose creative and persuasive style has produced many millions of dollars in settlements and judgments for his clients.

Recently, Mr. Rodman represented the widow of a worker who suffered a traumatic brain injury on the job. In this case, he obtained one of the largest judicial orders in Massachusetts history for specific permanent losses under the Workers’ Compensation Act. He has also obtained substantial recoveries for victims of structural collapses and defective machinery. In these cases, and others, Mr. Rodman utilized inventive settlement strategies, including structured payments providing lifetime annuities for his clients.

Mr. Rodman is an active member of the American Association for Justice, the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys.  He lives in Newton, Massachusetts with his wife, Sarine, who is an artist, and their three children.

Richard M. Sandman

Attorney Richard M. Sandman is co-owner and Managing Partner of Rodman, Rodman & Sandman, P.C., and has been a practicing attorney for 30 years.  Following graduation from Boston College Law School where he served as Executive Editor of the American Journal of Law and Medicine, Mr. Sandman started his career as an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he litigated high-exposure felonies.  He returned to Massachusetts and became one of our personal injury attorneys in 1985. 

Mr. Sandman is nationally recognized in the areas of asbestos litigation, toxic torts, water contamination, and complex product liability claims.  He has been involved extensively in tobacco-related litigation, and worked with other personal injury attorneys throughout the country to achieve the national multibillion-dollar settlement with the tobacco industry.  He has represented thousands of asbestos claimants nationwide in state and federal courts, earning millions of dollars for his clients. Mr. Sandman has played significant roles in litigations involving defective prescription drugs and other products.  Recently, he represented eighty Massachusetts municipalities whose public water supplies had been contaminated by the gasoline additive methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE).  After six years of litigation, the case settled, resulting in over $83 million dollars to his clients.

Mr. Sandman has successfully litigated and resolved individual claims involving catastrophic motor vehicle accidents, head injuries, burns, construction site injuries, as well as claims against major automobile manufactures for automotive defects, including crashworthiness claims involving Jeep CJs and Wranglers.
Mr. Sandman is an avid dog lover and enjoys tennis, golf, and photography. He lives in Andover, Massachusetts with his wife, Susan.  His two sons are presently in college and law school.
