Water Contamination
Fresh, clean drinking water is one of our most valuable resources. We often take its purity and safety for granted. Unfortunately, as more chemicals are introduced into the environment, there is a greater chance of potential contamination to the purity of your drinking water.
We provide legal representation to cities, towns and water districts whose drinking water may have become compromised or tainted as a result of a leak or spill of a contaminant.
Presently, we represent 80 cities, towns, and water districts as a result of detections of Methyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether (MTBE) in their public water supplies.
These cases are prosecuted against the largest oil companies in the world, including ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, Shell, CITGO, and Sunoco, among many others, who added MTBE into gasoline. Unfortunately, when there is a gasoline spill or leak, this additive filtrates into underground water supplies and can cause contamination. Our lawsuit against these companies has resulted in a total recovery nationwide of over $423 million of which $83 million went to our Massachusetts clients.
It is our goal to help Massachusetts municipalities, water districts, and individuals protect this precious resource and to help recover damages in the event of detections of MTBE or other dangerous chemicals.
Other chemicals that can contaminate water supplies include, among others:
- Atrazine
- Benzene
- DBCP (Dibromochloropropane)
- Dioxin
- Ethylbenzene
- Heavy metals (mercury, lead, copper, cadmium, arsenic, chromium, nickel, and others)
- Perchlorate
- PCB's (polychlorinated biphenyls)
- PCE (perchloroethylene)
- Solvents
- TCE (trichloroethylene)
- Toluene
- Vinyl chloride
- Xylene
Please contact us if you are concerned that your drinking water has been contaminated as the result of one of these, or other, dangerous chemicals.
